Amelia Yellow Flying High

Named for the American aviator and passionate adventurer Amelia Earhart - the first women to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in the early 1930s. As a youngster she defied conventional feminine behaviour by climbing trees and "belly slamming" her sledge to get it started downhill and also kept a scrapbook of newspaper clippings about successful women in predominately male orientated fields such as film direction and production, law, advertising, management and mechanical engineering. She was no stranger to disapproval or doubt and was presented with prejudicial and financial challenges due to the fact that she was female. An encounter at a stunt flying exhibition when she was around 20 years old awoke her passion for flying. She worked hard and saved enough money for flying lessons and later her own plane - a second hand Kinner Airster which was a two seated biplane and painted bright yellow! Here at Osity we admire her for her determination, courage and spirit of adventure. As a female founded small creative business, Amelia Yellow is our nod to hard working, pioneering and progressive women everywhere.
